Suffolk University Madrid Campus

Suffolk University Madrid Campus forms part of Suffolk University in Boston, founded in 1906.  Suffolk University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. and its Sawyer School of Management carries AACSB accreditation.  It also has a Law School, a College of Arts and Sciences and the New England School of Art and Design, all with appropriate accreditation.

The Madrid Campus has been in existence since 1995 and in addition to carrying the accreditation status of its Boston Campus, is one of the very few American universities to be authorized by the appropriate Spanish Educational body: the Comunidad de Madrid.  Please note that we are not just a program, but a full Campus, which means that we provide more services for students than do virtually every other American program in Spain.

The Madrid Campus offers the General Requirements and a good selection of major courses listed by Suffolk University Boston Campus in its Academic Catalog, with specific strengths, among others, in the areas of Marketing, Science, Spanish and Art Studies.  All may be taken by study abroad students, who have additional course offerings.

Students join us a freshman, and many stay for one, two, and in some cases three years before returning to the Boston Campus or elsewhere to complete their studies.  In the near future, it may be possible to complete a physics degree program at the Madrid Campus.

We have a strong Spanish Department, so typically students take Spanish, whether in Spanish language, culture or literature.  Additionally they take some courses in their own specific area of interest, whether it be Humanities, Science, Social Science, or Business.  Furthermore students usually seek to take a course or two that draws on our Spanish and European resources, namely one of the Art courses based on the world class Prado and other museums in Madrid, and one of our European or Spanish study courses in History or Politics.

The Madrid Campus academic program is taught by faculty with equivalent qualifications to those on its Boston Campus.  Moreover, the quality of the instuction is regularly assessed and considered very positively by students in their exit questionnaires, both in terms of teaching abilites and accessibility outside class and in office hours.

Our study abroad students have come from some of the most prestigious universities in the U.S.  We also host the study abroad programs of specific universities, though always withing the context of a small Campus where considerable individual attention is offered to students.
