The Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences is a non-for-profit pan-Arab, regional organization, established in 1988, and enjoys full diplomatic status, financial and administrative independence. Headquartered in Jordan with several branches in the Arab region, the Arab Academy is a member of the Association of Arab Universities, the International Association of Universities, the Federation of Arab Research Councils, the Arab Federation of Technical Education and other international academic and professional organizations. The Academy delivers its services to Arab banks, financial institutions and markets, companies, individuals and Governmental agencies in all sectors. It participates actively in the efforts dedicated towards the enhancement and upgrading of the academic, professional and technical levels of Arab banks and institutions.

 Higher education started at the Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences / Amman during the year 1990/1991. Such an activity was under the responsibility of the Department of Academic Affairs which in, 1996, was developed for the College of Banking and Financial Sciences. Specializations have developed in the form of scientific departments during the course of higher education. The college aims at developing frameworks working in banks, financial markets, accounting firms both in public and private sectors in Arab and Islamic states. This is in addition to preparing Academic teachers for universities and higher institutes, qualified trainers for training institutes, researchers for research centers, and experts for consulting firms. This is to be achieved by providing college students with scientific and professional knowledge, and leveraging their managerial and technical knowledge in the specialization of banking and finance required in the Arab world within the development of the Arab, regional, and international markets.

Scientific Departments in the College of Banking and Financial Sciences include:

  • Business Administration

  • Marketing

  • Management Information Systems

At the beginning of 2003, the College started the under graduate programs leading to the Bachelor Degree in three specializations:

  • Accounting

  • Banking and Financial Management

  • Computer Information Systems

Three more specializations have been added as of the start of the academic year 2004/2005 and these are:

  • Management Information Systems

  • Business Administration

  • Marketing

Some Bachelor Degree studies are delivered either through the Arab Academy, or in cooperation with other international universities, such as The University of London-London School of Economics & political Sciences.

The Cairo-Based College started the higher education in the second semester of the academic year 1999/2000. It includes five scientific departments:

  • Banking

  • Financial Markets

  • Financial Management

  • Accounting

  • Management Information Systems

The Damascus-based Higher Studies Program started in the summer semester of the academic year 2002/2003, and it has the following scientific departments:

  • Banking

  • Financial Management

  • Financial Markets

  • Information Systems

The Sana'a – based College started in the second semester of the academic year 2003/2004, and it has the following departments:

  • Banking

  • Financial Markets

  • Islamic Banking

  • Computer Information Systems

  • Accounting

  • Financial Management

  • Business Administration (in English)

  • Marketing (in English)

The Arab Academy launched its Bachelor Program in Mu'ta University in the Southern of Jordan as of the first semester of the academic year 2004/2005. It  has the following departments:

  • Management Information Systems

  • Business Administration

  • Marketing

  • Accounting

  • Banking and Financial Management

  • Computer Information Systems

Another branch will soon be opening in the Republic of Sudan.

All of the above mentioned programs are characterized by being a distinctive mix that has never been found in any other university. This is in terms of adopting a teaching method that depends mainly on:

  • Explanations and follow up lectures being delivered to the students

  • Having an elite group of university teachers, Arab and foreign experts for the activities of teaching and training.

  • Exposing students to an extensive usage of computer based knowledge, in addition to the field training in banks and financial institutions, an issue that makes continuous interaction between teaching and training.

  • Enriching the educational process with workshops, group discussion, simulation, case studies, role playing, exercises and other empirical applications.

Two-in-One Programme
Program Privileges
The idea is a unique one and is the first of its kind in the region and may be in the world. As, The Arab Academy has contacted the University of London and its lead College London School of Economics & Political Sciences to facilitate offering LSE programs via the Arab Academy premises and professional instructors and professors. As an initial phase it was agreed to start offering Bachelor programs, BSc in Accounting and Finance and BSc in Information Systems and Management. Academic committees from both academic institutes; London School of Economics and The Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences created a joint program after which the student will be holding two degrees; one from each academic institute. Hence, the student is granted the national and regional, accreditation holding the Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences degree and the global accreditation holding the University of London degree. So, upon successful completion of the four years the student will be holding two accredited degrees.

  • BSc Accounting and Finance
    Accounting and finance are about much more than just computational skill. Both subjects teach us how to perceive and understand the nature of organizations. They also provide students with an understanding of how the market allocates finance to them.

  • BSc Information Systems and Management
    The study of information systems relates to how organizations and societies use and exploit new information and communication technologies (ICT). Emphasis is on the organizational and social aspects of the efforts organizations make in order to accommodate ICT, change their practices, and achieve benefits.
